Good design is to evaluate what you could do better, faster, different and more efficient.
Onur Cobanli explains:
Small, little details, refinements and subtle complexities and sophistication add great deal of value to modern designs, when the design is so clear and obvious, the detail is what makes the difference and does the talk. However, the detail itself must be refined, kindly made, perhaps the detail might be a simple idea, that comes deep within the designers soul and psyche, reflection of their emotion and mind on a minuscule detail, with a simple topology or geometry. In other words, to differentiate modern designs, add little refined details that are not necessarily simple or modern, but not too much in a way to not make your design nonmodern.
